We’re taking a look at some of the most popular home décor trends to pop up in the early days of 2023. Are these trends that might take your fancy or suit your home?
10 – Open plan kitchens
You might be lucky here and already have an open plan kitchen, but there are a lot of homes that have a kitchen in one room and a dining room in another room. Our pitch is this: if the wall that separates the two isn’t weight bearing, knock it down. Or you can cut out a nice window that makes for a counter into both rooms.
It’s the same concept as islands: you want somewhere where you and your guests can chat while you cook, or serve wine. It means turning hosting into a community event, or making a meal into a family event. If you don’t have a separate dining room, you might want to look into buying benches for your kitchen. Create a little booth for your kitchen where the guest number is only as much as can fit on the bench for a more calm, fun, hosting experience. There are lots of dining furniture options in discount furniture stores.
09 – Concept rooms
A concept room is basically a more subtle themed room. The difference between the two is how hard you want to hit people over the head with your idea. For example, themed rooms are better fitted to a kids room. They want to be a princess, so you paint it pink, with a castle over their bed, and stars on the ceiling, etc.
A concept room is more adult. If you, for example, love the coastal theme, you can evoke it without buying every decorative piece that has an anchor, a starfish, a fishnet, etc. You can paint your home a cool blue, with white stone accents, and choose décor that simply evokes the idea of the coast with its materials rather than being so blatant about it. Use your colors and materials to evoke the idea you’re going for.
08 – Hobby rooms
Let’s face it, fewer people are having fewer kids and they’re waiting longer to get there. In the meantime, a lot of homes are therefore leaving them with a spare room to fill. And there are a lot of ideas for that room. You can go for a walk-in closet, a home gym or a home office, which has become particularly popular since lockdown, but now a lot of interior designers are pitching the idea of a “listening room”. Like a home cinema, it’s a place where you can be alone with your favorite artists, your vinyl player, perhaps your production set up or a few instruments, where you can simply be alone with music.
But we’re taking that a step further. If your hobby is painting, pottery, writing, what have you, the same laws apply. Like the concept room, don’t put up a Blondie poster and call that a design. Art can evoke your hobby, as can the color scheme and the materials you use, and most importantly, the furniture and practical items you fill the room with.
07 – Natural Materials
One of the biggest home decor trends of recent years is the use of natural materials. From wood and stone to rattan and wicker, natural materials bring an earthy and organic feel to any space. Incorporating natural materials into your home decor can create a calming and peaceful atmosphere.
06 – Bold Colors
Bold and bright colors are becoming increasingly popular in home decor. From rich jewel tones to vibrant pastels, bold colors can add a pop of personality and drama to your space. Consider adding a bright accent wall or colorful statement piece to make a bold impact.
05 – Minimalism
Minimalism is a home decor trend that’s been around for years and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. The minimalist style is all about simplicity and functionality, with clean lines and a neutral color palette. Adopting a minimalist approach to your home decor can create a calming and serene space.
04 – Vintage and Retro Vibes
Vintage and retro-inspired decor is making a comeback in a big way. From mid-century modern furniture to vintage-inspired textiles and wallpaper, incorporating vintage and retro elements into your home decor can add a touch of nostalgia and charm to your space.
03 – Artisanal Touches
Artisanal touches, such as handcrafted ceramics, woven textiles, and handmade pottery, are becoming increasingly popular in home decor. Adding artisanal elements to your space can create a sense of warmth and intimacy, and support small businesses and independent makers.
02 – Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Materials
As people become more conscious of their impact on the environment, sustainable and eco-friendly materials are becoming increasingly popular in home decor. From recycled plastics to bamboo and cork, incorporating sustainable materials into your home decor can make a positive impact on the planet while also elevating your space.
01 – Home Office Upgrades
With more people working from home than ever before, home office upgrades are becoming a popular home decor trend. From ergonomic chairs and standing desks to stylish storage solutions and statement lighting, upgrading your home office can create a productive and inspiring workspace.
